Katrina Bell
Katrina Bell is a self taught artist who was raised in the Roanoke Valley. She is internationally recognized for her work which is featured in many public and private collections.
I was born and raised in Roanoke, Virginia. I remember always loving art even as a child. My family was instrumental in encouraging my talents. Both of my parents are musicians. They understood me and my need to create. I knew from an early age that I had a talent for drawing and painting. I won many art competitions in High School. I decided, however, to withdraw myself from competition with other artists and focus on my career. I chose self-teaching over art school.
I am an introvert, so I prefer to paint alone. I like to study the masters in my own studio, challenging myself. I am a self-taught painter, sculptor and wood carver. I like to work with many mediums to achieve great texture and depth. When a piece begins it is allowed to evolve and establish its own identity.
I continue to educate myself on every aspect of painting, working daily to perfect the technical components of my art. My favorite style of painting is large abstracts. They push me both mentally and physically.
I have chosen to live in the mountains that surround Roanoke as this beautiful natural environment inspires me every day. Art continues to be my love, my air and my daily challenge.
